Kingston Mayor Proposes 6.9% Property Tax Increase for 2027

Kingston homeowners could face higher property taxes in 2027 under a proposed city budget introduced by Mayor Steve Noble.
During his annual budget address to the Kingston Common Council, Noble outlined a spending plan that includes a 6.9% property tax increase for the coming year.
The proposed increase follows ongoing financial pressures facing the city, including rising employee health insurance costs and other municipal expenses. City officials previously indicated that additional property tax increases could be necessary to address growing operating costs.
In September, the Common Council voted to authorize exceeding New York State's property tax cap, allowing the city to consider a tax increase above the state's standard limit.
The proposed budget will be subject to review by the Common Council before final adoption.
If approved, the increase would add to the financial considerations facing Kingston property owners and prospective homebuyers as communities throughout the Hudson Valley balance municipal service costs with concerns about housing affordability.
