$86.7 Million I-95 Improvement Project Substantially Completed in Westchester County

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the substantial completion of an $86.7 million pavement improvement project along nearly five miles of Interstate 95 in Westchester County, marking another major investment in the region's transportation infrastructure.
The project, overseen by the New York State Thruway Authority, included resurfacing approximately 30 lane miles between Pelham Manor and Mamaroneck, rehabilitating or repaving 11 bridges, and improving 12 interchange ramps. More than 800 LED lights were also installed in the tunnel beneath Metro-North Railroad's Larchmont station.
Approximately 120,000 vehicles travel this section of I-95 daily, making it a critical transportation corridor connecting residential communities, commercial centers and businesses throughout Westchester County and the greater metropolitan region.
DeFoe Corp. of Mount Vernon served as the project contractor. Additional work on an I-95 overpass above railroad tracks in New Rochelle remains underway.
The improvements are part of nearly $200 million invested by the Thruway Authority in I-95 infrastructure between the Bronx and Westchester County since 2023. A separate $39.7 million pavement improvement project between Mamaroneck and Rye is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
The investments are intended to improve roadway safety, reliability and regional connectivity while supporting the transportation needs of residents, commuters and businesses.
