New York City Advances Plans for 15-Mile Bronx Waterfront Greenway

New York City is moving forward with plans for a 15-mile waterfront greenway connecting Randall's Island to SUNY Maritime College in Throggs Neck, creating new opportunities for waterfront access, recreation and transportation throughout the southern Bronx.
The New York City Department of Transportation, NYC Parks and the New York City Economic Development Corporation have launched a public engagement process to help shape the proposed corridor, which would connect neighborhoods including Hunts Point, Soundview and Throggs Neck.
The initiative aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle connections between residential neighborhoods, waterfront parks and major employment centers, particularly the industrial and commercial areas of Hunts Point.
The proposed greenway would also address gaps in the borough's existing waterfront transportation network, where highways, industrial properties and private developments currently limit public access to portions of the shoreline.
The planning initiative is supported by a $7.25 million federal grant awarded to New York City in 2022 to develop implementation plans for six greenway corridors across the outer boroughs.
City officials are evaluating both near-term improvements, including signage and roadway markings, and larger infrastructure projects that would require additional capital funding.
Implementation plans are expected to be completed by 2028, although the final route and construction schedule have not yet been determined.
Residents and community stakeholders are invited to participate in the planning process. A virtual public workshop is scheduled for December 3, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m
