New York Opens Applications for Home Heating Assistance of Up to $1,086

New York State is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which provides financial assistance to eligible households facing rising home heating costs.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that eligible New Yorkers may receive up to $1,086 in assistance this winter, depending on household income, size, heating source and other eligibility factors.
A family of four with an annual gross income of up to $82,230 may qualify for assistance. The program serves eligible homeowners and renters, including older adults and households with limited incomes.
The state has also increased benefit amounts for households using delivered heating fuels, including oil, kerosene and propane, to help offset higher energy costs.
Eligible households can receive one regular HEAP benefit per heating season. Additional emergency assistance will become available beginning January 4, 2027, for qualifying households at risk of losing heating services or running out of fuel.
The program also provides assistance to eligible homeowners for heating equipment inspections, cleaning, repairs and replacement.
Applications are accepted online, by mail or in person through local departments of social services. Benefits are distributed on a first come, first served basis, subject to eligibility and available funding.
