Rockland County Completes First Project Under $30 Million Sidewalk Improvement Initiative

Rockland County has completed nearly one mile of new sidewalks along Saddle River Road in Chestnut Ridge, marking the first completed project under its $30 million countywide sidewalk safety initiative.
The approximately $1.7 million project includes new sidewalks, curbs and improved driveway entrances along a heavily traveled section of Saddle River Road, where pedestrians previously had to walk alongside vehicle traffic.
County and local officials recently celebrated the completion of the improvements, which are designed to enhance pedestrian safety, neighborhood accessibility and connectivity for residents.
Rockland County Legislator Joel Friedman helped secure funding for the project and is working to advance two additional sidewalk improvements in Airmont.
The countywide initiative is intended to address pedestrian safety concerns throughout Rockland County, with additional projects along county roads currently in various stages of planning, engineering and development.
The investment reflects ongoing efforts to improve local transportation infrastructure and create safer, more walkable residential communities.
