New Economic Development Initiative Highlights Westchester's Growth Opportunities

Real Estate In-Depth • June 4, 2026

Westchester County is making a coordinated push to attract new businesses, investment, and talent through the launch of The Catalyst, a new economic development guide and marketing platform designed to showcase the county's strengths as a place to live, work, and do business. The initiative was developed through a partnership between the Business Council of Westchester, Westchester County's Department of Economic Development, and Today Media.

According to the Business Council of Westchester, The Catalyst highlights key sectors driving the county's economy, including real estate, healthcare, transportation, life sciences, artificial intelligence, energy, workforce development, and film production. The guide is intended to help attract companies looking to launch, relocate, or expand while showcasing the innovation, talent, and quality of life that continue to make Westchester a competitive business destination.

County Executive Ken Jenkins noted that partnerships between government and the business community are critical to maintaining economic growth and creating an environment where businesses can invest and thrive. Business Council of Westchester President and CEO Marsha Gordon emphasized the county's momentum in recruiting and retaining businesses across multiple industries.

Why REALTORS® Should Pay Attention

Economic development and real estate are closely linked. When companies choose to expand or relocate to a region, demand often follows for office space, industrial facilities, retail locations, housing, and community services. Business growth can also create demand for workforce housing and support investment in infrastructure and mixed use development.

The Catalyst arrives as Westchester leaders continue to focus on economic competitiveness, innovation, workforce development, and affordability. The county recently launched an Affordability and Economic Development Task Force to examine challenges related to housing, transportation, energy costs, and business growth. County leaders have acknowledged that addressing housing availability will be an important part of attracting and retaining both employers and workers.

Building for the Future

The launch of The Catalyst reflects a broader effort among business, government, and community leaders to position Westchester for long term success. The guide highlights emerging industries, clean energy initiatives, artificial intelligence, workforce training, and other areas expected to shape the county's future economy.

For real estate professionals, these efforts serve as a reminder that housing, commercial development, economic growth, and quality of life are interconnected. As Westchester competes for new businesses and talent, the ability to provide housing options, vibrant downtowns, transportation access, and modern commercial spaces will remain key factors in the county's continued success.
